Dhoni's Future in IPL Remains Uncertain
The buzz around MS Dhoni's potential retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL) has surged following the recent match between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals last Saturday.
At the age of 43, with his batting performance declining, many speculate that this season might signal the conclusion of his remarkable IPL journey.
However, during a frank discussion with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Dhoni dispelled the retirement rumors, clearly outlining his intentions regarding his cricketing future.
He remarked, "No, not right now… I am still playing the IPL and taking it one year at a time. I will turn 44 in July, so I have about ten months to evaluate if I want to continue for another year. Ultimately, it’s my body that will dictate that decision," Dhoni explained, as he competes in his 18th IPL season.
The legendary CSK player further emphasized, "I am concentrating fully on the present. We’ll assess things afterward."
Chennai Super Kings' head coach, Stephen Fleming, also commented on Dhoni's performance, stating that he is "still going strong" and that it is not his place to end the former captain's IPL career.
Despite facing challenges with his batting this season, Dhoni's wicket-keeping skills and fitness have remained commendable, reflecting his enduring consistency. His quick reflexes and sharp cricketing intellect continue to impress. However, his batting has raised concerns, as he has yet to conclude any innings positively in IPL 2025.
Once viewed as a significant asset, Dhoni's role at the end of innings is now becoming a liability for the 'Yellow Brigade'.
In the latest encounter against Delhi Capitals, Dhoni scored only 30 runs off 26 balls, contributing to CSK's substantial 50-run loss.
With this defeat, CSK has now faced three consecutive losses, marking one of their worst starts to an IPL season, all while chasing.
